Nano Glasses


TRIC Consortium has constituted a consortium on the extremely valuable area of Nano-glasses that hold considerable significance for the sphere as it goes forward. Nano-glasses (NGs) are glassy materials, generated by introducing interfaces into metallic glasses on a nanometer scale. This consortium will address the state-of-the-art synthesis and compositions, characterization techniques, properties, and applications of various types of glasses to elucidated with up-to-date theoretical and experimental evidence.

Objectives of the consortium

The synthesis and development of Advanced Nanomaterials is a critical need for businesses around the world. The proposed science and technology work on nano-glasses will be conducted to address below aims:

  • Fabrication and characterization of nano-glasses alloys.
  • Synthesis and characterization of nano-glasses to enhance properties.
  • Biotechnological advances for various antibacterial, antiviral and treatment applications.
  • Develop biological applications covering diagnostics, bio-nanoglass-interfaces and tissue regeneration prospective.
  • Creating new functional materials with technological aspects.

Consortium Chair


  • Prof. Gleiter is a Honorary Adviser, Founder and former Director of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Institute of Nanotechnology, Germany. In 1989 Prof. Gleiter initiated the development of new class of noncrystalline solids, the so-called nano-glasses.
  • Prof. Gleiter is considered as a revolutionary researcher of the world of nanomaterials due to his pioneer work in nanoscience and nanotechnology.
  • He is responsible for the discovery of dislocations in inter-crystalline interfaces and the “structural unit model” of grain boundaries which provides the basis for today’s grain boundary models.
