Dr Vivek Dhar Dwivedi is presently working as a Scientist in Center for Bioinformatics, Computational and Systems Biology, Pathfinder Research and Training Foundation, Greater Noida-India. He is an avid researcher working on development of bioinformatics tools and applications for Viral Informatics data analysis and Drug Discovery. He is also an active member of The Scientific Advisory Board and The World Society for Virology and serving as an Editorial Board Member in Scientific Report (Nature) and Current Indian Science (Bentham Science) peer review scientific journals.

Previously, Dr Dwivedi worked in ICMR-National JALMA Institute of Leprosy and other Mycobacterial Diseases, Agra, India; Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun, India, and Uttaranchal College of Science, Dehradun, India. Dr Dwivedi has been awarded with the “Best Researcher Award” in 2021 for his significant contribution and honourable achievement in the Innovative research; the “Young Scientist Award” in 2021 in 9th Academic Brilliance Awards-21 by Education Expo TV, and the “Highest Publication Award” in 2014 in the Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, Uttaranchal College of Science & Technology, Dehradun. Dr Dwivedi has authored 50+ research and review articles in reputed journals published by Springer Nature, Elsevier, Taylor and Francis, and Oxford University Press publishers as well as 33 single gene and 2 whole bacterial genome submissions in the GenBank, NCBI repository.

Bioinformatics for the management of Infectious Diseases

Dr Dwivedi is a core bioinformatician, and therefore, he has expertise in computer language and programming. He is highly motivated to develop bioinformatics tools and databases that can assist the researchers struggling to develop potential drugs and vaccines against infectious microorganisms. In the same effort, he has developed bioinformatics tools such as ORF Investigator, Biological Data Analysis Program (BDAP), and a database of dengue virus inhibitors (DenvInD). Dr Dwivedi's involvement in developing the tool mainly includes the knowledge of PEARL programming language, whereas the database development is mainly based on the infectious diseases.

Exploration of Lead compounds against SARS-CoV-2

Dr Dwivedi contributed tremendously to the COVID-19 research and actively participated in the fight against SARS-CoV-2 using computer-aided drug designing (CADD) approach. He collaborated with the international researchers working on COVID-19 and predicted potential natural and FDA approved compounds with promising activities against the COVID-19 drug targets, such as the viral main protease (Mpro), viral papain-like protease (PLpro), and human transmembrane protease serine 2 (TMPRSS2). His CADD approach mainly includes the molecular modeling, structure-based virtual screening, classical molecular dynamics simulation, Ligand optimization via density functional theory (DFT), and hybrid QM/MM molecular simulations, which are profound techniques for drug development via computational approach.

Targeting Flaviviruses to develop potential therapeutics

The active area of Dr Dwivedi is a flavivirus infection, including the Dengue virus (DENV), Zika virus (ZIKV), and Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV). His preferred targets for inhibiting flavivirus infections are NS2B-NS3 protease and the NS5 RNA dependent RNA Polymerase (RdRp) domain. Both these proteins are crucial players for the pathogenesis as the former enzyme is required for the proteolytic cleavage of the polyprotein, and the latter is responsible for viral replication inside the host. Under the supervision of Dr Dwivedi, his research scholars are currently developing potential therapeutic drugs via CADD and efficient vaccines via epitope prediction using immunoinformatics tools and databases against DENV, ZIKV, and JEV.
